Do You Need a License to Ride a Moped, Motorcycle or E-Bike in QLD? 2025 Rules Update
With new rules rolling out in 2025, it’s important to know what license (if any) you need to legally ride a moped, motorcycle or e-bike in Queensland.
Queensland Licensing Rules (as of 2025):
- Mopeds (50cc or under): A Class C driver’s license (car license) is sufficient.
- Motorcycles above 50cc: You need an RE or R class motorcycle license.
- E-Bikes (pedal-assist under 25km/h): No license required.
- High-powered e-bikes (above 250W or capable of over 25km/h): May be classified as motorized vehicles—check with QLD Transport.
Safety & Legal Requirements:
- Helmets are mandatory for all riders.
- Registration is required for mopeds and motorcycles.
